Track every job application in one place, privately on your own computer.
Job Tracker is a free, open-source app that keeps all your applications in one dashboard. Add jobs by hand, or let the optional Gmail scan find application confirmations, interview invitations, offers and rejections for you to review.
- Runs on your computer
- No account, no cloud
- Open source (MIT)
What Job Tracker does
A job search spreads across job boards, recruiter emails and company career sites. Job Tracker pulls it into one list, so you always know where each application stands.
You run it on your own computer and open it in your web browser. Your applications are saved in a single database file on that computer. There is no sign-up, no subscription and no server run by the developer.
Features
Everything works without Gmail. The scan is an optional extra.
One dashboard
Company, job title, status, source and applied date for every application, in one sortable list.
Clear statuses
Applied, Recruiter Screen, Technical Round, HM Round, Interview Scheduled, Offer, Rejected, Declined by You and Ghosted.
Filters and export
Filter by status or source, delete one job or many at once, and export everything to CSV any time.
Optional Gmail scan
Reads recent inbox emails and suggests entries. You review every suggestion. Nothing is added automatically.
Stays up to date
When a new email is about a job you already track, the app offers to update its status instead of adding a duplicate.
Yours to keep
Free, open source under the MIT license, with your data in a single file you can back up or delete.
How the Gmail scan works
The scan is optional and read-only. Here is exactly what happens when you use it.
-
You sign in with Google
You choose your account on Google’s own sign-in page and approve one permission: read-only access to Gmail.
-
The app looks for job emails, on your computer
It searches your recent inbox for job-related messages and works out whether each one is an application, interview, offer or rejection. This happens locally.
-
You decide what to keep
You see the results and choose what to add to the tracker, edit it, or dismiss it. You can disconnect Gmail at any time.
How Job Tracker uses your Google data
Job Tracker requests the gmail.readonly permission to read the sender, subject and text of
your emails so it can detect job-application messages. It cannot send, change or delete email. Email
content is processed on your computer only. The developer never receives it, and it is not sold,
shared or used for advertising or to train AI models.
Job Tracker’s use and transfer to any other app of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

Get started
You need Node.js 20.17 or newer. It takes a few minutes.
1. Download and set up
git clone https://github.com/vedijapillay/job-tracker.git
cd job-tracker
npm run setup
2. Start the app
npm start
Want to look around first? Run npm run demo instead. It loads sample jobs and a simulated
email scan in a separate database, so nothing real is touched and no Google account is needed.
3. Open it in your browser
Go to http://localhost:3000. The tracker is ready to use straight away.
4. Optional: connect Gmail
Click Scan Gmail and follow the on-screen guide. You can skip this and add jobs by hand.
Your data is stored in a file called jobs.db in the project folder. Back it up by copying it.
